Manoj Tiwari slams CM, says he is playing vote-bank politics

Terming the regularisation of unauthorised colonies “a serious issue” the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of going back on its poll promise of regularising theese units across the Capital.

On February 14, Mr. Kejriwal would complete four years in office but “not a single colony” had been regularised nor had development work at these been completed, argued Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari.

Depriving these colonies

“Union Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Puri said that Kejriwal is responsible for depriving these colonies of development. He also said that the Aam Aadmi Party government has requested for two more years time for regularising these colonies,” Mr. Tiwari said at a press conference here.

“About 50% of the population of Delhi lives in these 1,700 unauthorised colonies. Hence it is obvious that the development of these colonies and providing basic amenities become important in vote bank politics. Last year, the Delhi government allotted only ₹1,500 crore for the development of these colonies out of the budget of ₹53,000 crore,” Mr. Tiwari said further.

Accusing him of “playing the politics of vote bank”, Mr. Tiwari argued that if the Delhi government had “real intentions to work for these colonies” then it would have “done something and not accused others”.

“The people who staged a dharna in AC rooms cannot understand the sufferings of poor families. These people came to power by claiming to be Aam Aadmi but have become masters of Delhi. How can they understand the problems of lakhs of people living in these unauthorised colonies?” Mr. Tiwari asked.
