Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan on Wednesday said his party would not be part of an alliance in which the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) is a partner.
He also said so far no talks had been held with the DMK directly or indirectly for seat-sharing for the coming Lok Sabha polls.
“I met DMK president M.K. Stalin on February 2 to thank him for participating in the ‘Save Nation’ conference [conducted by VCK] and we had a general discussion on politics. Seat-sharing did not figure during the meeting,” he told The Hindu.
Explaining why the VCK could not work with the PMK in politics, Mr. Thirumavalavan alleged that since the Dharmapuri incident, in which Dalit youth Ilavarasan died, the PMK had been indulging in mudslinging against him and the VCK and seeking to connect them with incidents of ‘Love Jihad’.
“There was also an attempt on my life, and anti-social elements were used for the purpose. We are clear on two issues. We are against the BJP and will not join a front in which PMK is a constituent,” he said.
Asked about the reports that the PMK had simultaneously opened channels with the DMK and the AIADMK for an alliance, he said the chances of the PMK joining the DMK alliance were remote.
“But the PMK can hold talks with both the DMK and the AIADMK and will finally enter into an agreement with the AIADMK. It is my observation. See what has happened to the party which once declared that it would not join hands with the Dravidian parties and national parties so long as the world exists,” Mr. Thirumavalavan quipped.
‘Advantage DMK’
He also opined that if the AIADMK was allowed to take a decision without pressure, it would certainly not include the BJP in its alliance.
“But the BJP government will bring pressure on the ruling AIADMK to accommodate it in the alliance for the Lok Sabha polls and this will only benefit the DMK combine,” Mr. Thirumavalavan contended.
