District cooling system aimed at future energy needs: Experts
tnn | Feb 8, 2019, 04:00 ISTRajkot: The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) jointly organized a workshop with International Solar Alliance on ‘Cooling Smart cities: The arrival of district energy in India” on Thursday. UN Environment India head Atul Bagai, additional director of International Solar Alliance, Rajeev Gyani and chief secretary JN Singh also participate in the event.
Indian’s first district cooling system has been installed at GIFT city in Gandhinagar and now Rajkot, Bhopal, Coimbatore, Pune and Thane are in the process to install this system under smart city initiative. The district cooling system will be installed at Raiya greenfield smart city planned under the Centre’s Smart City Mission across 930 acres.
J N Singh said, “The state government targets to produce 5,000 MW solar energy and for that district cooling system will be helpful.” India head of UN Environment Atul Bagai said, “In India the demand of AC and electricity is increasing. We need to reduce the carbon emission. The district cooling system is effective solution.”
