Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) in association with the MahaMetro will open a newly constructed road connecting Wardha road with Ajni railway station square for the public on February 22. The road starts from junction of Wardha road and VIP road before Rahate Colony square and ends at the square of Ajni railway over bridge and railway station road.
Former mayor and corporator Pravin Datke held a meeting of NMC officials on Wednesday and directed the officials to ensure completion of all works on the road by February 21.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and union minister Nitin Gadkari will jointly inaugurate the road.

The road was proposed in city’s development plan and could be developed only after directives of Gadkari to revise Metro Rail corridor to Ajni railway station to Wardha road instead of the earlier proposal of constructing it on the road connecting Rahate Colony square and Congress Nagar square.

The Metro Rail corridor and road have come up on land under the possession of Central Jail.

The road with a length of 1km and width of 30 meter comprises of all types of amenities. As it is situated between Central Jail’s premises, a compound wall with a height of two meter has been constructed on both sides of the road. Footpath, storm water drain, road-divider and street lights have been ensured on this tar road. Just like Wardha road, Metro Rail corridor will be in centre of the road.

In the meeting, Datke also directed the NMC officials to complete all packages of Rs324 crore- Cement Concrete Road project phase-II excluding one package on or before September 15.

Announced in December 2014, the project’s bhoomipuja was performed in March 2016. Deadline for completion of the project was 11 months. As of this date, 70% of the works have been completed.
