Woman killed in accident on Olpad-Masma road
TNN | Feb 8, 2019, 04:00 ISTSurat: A 70-year-woman was mowed down by a car near Talad High School on Olpad-Masma Road in Surat district on Thursday morning. The car rammed into a scooter first and then swerved to the side of the road where the elderly woman was standing. The septuagenarian was killed on the spot while the three persons on the scooter were grievously injured in the accident.
The deceased has been identified as Paliben Balu Patel, a native of Navapur village in Olpad taluka of Surat district. She suffered serious injuries all over her body, including head. The injured were identified as Rahul Rathod, Sanjay Rathod and Bhavin Rathod. All four were rushed to New Civil Hospital where the woman was declared dead. The three injured are under treatment at the hospital, Olpad police said, adding that one of them had suffered a fracture on hand. Car driver Kalu Ramani was arrested for rash and negligent driving. He has been booked under IPC sections and also Motor Vehicles Act.
People in large number blocked the Olpad-Masma Road for some time after the accident. They lifted the blockade after the driver was arrested.
