Extending support to the strike called by the Bar Council of India, the Odisha State Bar Council on Wednesday urged the lawyers to join the February 11 and 12 agitation.

Addressing media persons here, the State Bar Council chairman Tahali Charan Mohanty said that the lawyers in Odisha would submit the BCI’s five-point charter of demands to their respective District Collectors and tehsildars on February 11 and request them to forward it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mr. Mohanty added that Cuttack and Bhubaneswar lawyers would also submit the charter to the Governor on February 12.

The protest is against the “indifferent” attitude of various governments, including the Centre, towards lawyers, said Mr. Mohanty.

The demands include better infrastructural facilities for courts across the country and a budgetary allocation of ₹5,000 crore for financial protection, stipend and insurance cover for lawyers and their families.
