NMU alleged that staff did not get their due

A day after the APSRTC Employees Union JAC leaders announced their decision to call off the proposed strike following an assurance given to them by Transport Minister K. Atchannaidu, a war of words broke out between the former and their rival union, the National Mazdoor Union (NMU).

NMU was the only union in the RTC which did not join hands with the Employees Union in its strike call despite repeated pleas by EU leaders.

Rattled by the allegations made by the NMU that the JAC could not ensure the employees’ welfare and surrendered to the pressure brought by the management, the EU leaders on Wednesday hit back saying in fact, many wrongs done to the workers in the past when NMU was the recognised union in RTC, had been rectified by them.

The JAC leaders pointed out that they could persuade the management for payment of temporary 25% fitment with a condition that the RTC workers would be paid the hike on a par with NGOs in future.

They had also secured the management’s nod for time-bound payment of the arrears.
