Man trying to sneak out 10,000 USD in undergarments nabbed at Mangaluru airport

MANGALURU: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel on Thursday nabbed an air passenger headed for Dubai for surreptitiously trying to sneak 10,000 dollars in his undergarments at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA).
Hemendra Singh, assistant inspector-general, public relations officer, CISF in a communique here named the passenger as Abdul Hameed Kodiyama, who was booked to travel to Dubai by an Air India Express flight.
The incident came to light when CISF sub-inspector Rakesh Kumar Mahawar noticed some suspicious item concealed under the clothing of Abdul Hameed at about 8.10am during pre-embarkation security check at the international security hold area of MIA. CISF who took Hameed to a separate place in SHA for thorough search recovered two bundles of US dollars consisting of 5000 USD each from his possession.
The CISF personnel handed over the passenger along with recovered foreign currency (10000 USD worth approximately Rs 7 lakh) to Customs officials for further necessary action in the matter. Sources privy to the recovery of the amount, not willing to be named, told TOI that the senior CISF officials have announced a cash award of Rs 2000 to Rakesh Kumar for his alacrity and the officer is eligible for reward for Customs department as well.
