The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday recorded the statement of Karti Chidambaram in connection with the money laundering probe in the INX Media case.
Mr. Karti reached the ED office around 11 a.m. and was questioned for about five hours. The agency said the statement of former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram would be recorded on Friday. In October last year, the Directorate had attached properties worth ₹54 crore allegedly of Mr. Karti and a company in India, Spain and the U.K.
The ED probe is based on an FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation, which had arrested Mr. Karti in February 2018. The CBI alleged that he had demanded and accepted $1 million for scuttling a possible probe against INX Media for violation of Foreign Investment Promotion Board conditions in 2007. The then directors of INX Media, Indrani and Peter Mukerjea, were named as accused in the case.
