Five-year-old girl among six killed in accidents

NAGPUR: Six persons, including a five-year-old girl and a mother-son duo, were killed in five separate accidents in rural Nagpur between Sunday and Tuesday.
In the first incident, Neha Meshram, 5, was killed after being hit by a car on Tuesday at Mauja Bori, around 10 kilometres from Ramtek police station. Neha was crossing the road when a speeding car dashed her injuring critically. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but declared brought dead. After the accident, the driver of the killer vehicle fled the spot fearing public wrath.

In another incident, a mother-son duo was killed after the moped they were riding on was dashed by a speeding Aapli bus on Tuesday at Fetri Shivar, around nine kilometres from Kalmeshwar police station. Pankaj Gajbhiye and his mother Saraswati were going to Kalmeshwar from Nagpur when an oncoming bus hit the two-wheeler. The injured Pankaj and Saraswati were rushed to a hospital but they succumbed to the injuries.

In the third mishap, a biker was killed on Monday after the two-wheeler was rammed by a speeding truck. Bisan Wankhede, a resident of Pusla, died on the spot. Police have arrested the truck driver Prakash Bawankar.


In yet another tragedy, a truck driver was killed in a freak mishap after the vehicle he was driving met with an accident on Monday at Nandgaon Phata around, eight kilometres from Kanhan police station. Lakhvida Singh, 59, was carrying 16 tonne coal in a truck to Chandrapur when the vehicle bumped up on a speed breaker. Singh lost control over the vehicle and the truck went off the road before tipping over. Singh, a resident of Samta Nagar, died on the spot.


In another incident, Sundarlal Thakur, 65, succumbed to the injuries at Mayo Hospital on Sunday after having met with an accident on January 30 at Khaperkheda. Thakur was sitting outside a hotel when an unidentified truck rammed into him. He was rushed to Mayo Hospital where he died during treatment.


In all cases, police have booked the respective drivers for rash driving and death due to negligence.
