With over Rs 280 crore in kitty, Varanasi looks to boost infra, Sanskrit learning

A provision of Rs. 207 crore has been made for expansion of road from the Ganga bank to KVTVaranasi: The parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Varanasi has been given Rs. 281.51 crore in the state Budget 2019-20 under different heads, including Sanskrit learning, religious work and infrastructure development that includes the ambitious KVT corridor expansion project. The Budget was presented in Vidhan Sabha on Thursday.
There is a provision of Rs. 21 crore as grant to Kashi Vidyapeeth for promoting Sanskrit education, while Rs. 21.51 crore has been allocated to Sampurnanand Sanskrit University. Furthermore, a provision of Rs. 207 crore has been made for expansion and beautification of the road from the Ganga bank to Kashi Vishwanath Temple, a fund of Rs. 16 crore will be given to Banaras Hindu University BHU) for the establishment of Vedic Vigyan Kendra.
Besides, the city will also get a share from joint funds of Rs. 150 crore for preliminary works on Metro rail project and Rs. 250 crore for ‘One District-One Product’ (ODOP) scheme. The city will also have a share in Rs. 30 crore provisioned for ‘Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojna’, which aims at benefitting carpenters, tailors, basket weavers, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, potters, sweet makers, barbers, cobblers and masons.
Local weavers would also be benefited as the Budget has provision of Rs. 150 crore to provide electricity to power loom weavers at subsidized rates and Rs. 50 crore for UP Handloom, Powerloom, Silk, Textile and Garmenting Policy-2017.
The Budget also proposes to strengthen various places associated with Sant Kabir, including Lahartara Talab and Kabir Sthal, and the development of the birthplace of Ravidas at Seergovardhanpur. The Budget also proposed development of Sarnath under the Buddhist Circuit.
