Students on Wednesday urged Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar to establish a ‘Krishi Vidyalaya’ to teach farming techniques to the younger generation.
Students of various city schools who had attended the ninth Kerala Children’s Agricultural Science Congress met the Minister at the Assembly.
They also requested him to establish a museum on agriculture and organise field trips from schools to farms.
Sania, Sandra, and Parvathy of Holy Angels’ School, Vanchiyoor, who put forward the suggestion for farm school also asked the Minister to appoint model farmers as teachers. The Minister replied that the suggestion would be considered favourably.
Agricultural schemes
Sruthilaya S.R. of Government Girls’ HSS, Cotton Hill, spoke about integrated farming methods incorporating organic systems. Students of the Government Women’s College, Thiruvananthapuram, asked the Minister to encourage agricultural schemes in the State’s colleges.
Bhavya and Aditya Sekhar, student police cadets from Vithura, shared their experiences of manufacturing compost using human hair.
Kerala Children’s Agricultural Science Congress chairman D.R. Jose and convener A. Gangadevi were present.
