Officials told to adopt several villages

Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi has directed the District Industries Centre (DIC) to involve itself in the skill development of school dropouts residing in villages.

In a statement after interacting with officials of DIC, Ms. Bedi said the meeting had decided to adopt Ariyankuppam, Kalapet, Surapet, Abhishekapakkam, Kiramanpakkam, Villianur, Bahour, Embalam, Karyamputhur and Thirukannur for skill development activities.

The Lt. Governor said taking up skill development programme was important to avoid school dropouts from falling into the hands of criminal elements. The officials had been asked to work in pairs in villages. “Sundays will be preferred for village visit as the whole family can be addressed. The officials should brief the villagers about the skill development programmes,” she said.

The programme would help the children get rehabilitated and jobs.

H.P.S. Sran, Secretary, Department of Industries, and P. Priyatarshy, Director Industries Department, were present.
