Adhering to road safety rules will save many lives and the need of the hour is to create awareness on wearing helmets, said Superintendent of Police Pravesh Kumar on Wednesday.
While launching a road safety awareness campaign near the Collectorate, he presented flowers and sweets to those who followed traffic rules. He distributed new helmets to those riding without them. Volunteers distributed pamphlets containing road safety messages.
In a campaign organised at Ranipet, Mr. Pravesh Kumar distributed free helmets to 10 motorcyclists and advised them to wear them even while riding pillion on two wheelers. Similarly, he said drivers of four-wheelers should not forget to fasten seat belts. Nearly, 21% of road accidents have come down in 2018, when compared to 2017, he said. A rally taken out by the traffic police personnel and students began at Muthukadai and culminated at Ranipet.
A rally was organised by the Traffic Police wing of Katpadi and Junior Red Cross, where students from Government Girls Higher Secondary School participated and took a pledge to adhere to road safety rules. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Katpadi, M. Loganathan, School Headmistress G. Sarala and Junior Red Cross organiser S.N. Janardhanan participated.
