West Ham investigate fan abuse of Liverpool star Salah
London: West Ham United have opened an investigation into alleged racial abuse of Liverpool's Mohamed Salah during the clubs' 1-1 English Premier League draw at the London Stadium.
In a video posted on social media, a supporter could be heard shouting racial slurs at Salah as he went to take a corner kick on Monday.
West Ham said in a statement on Wednesday that they had a "zero tolerance policy for any former of violent or abusive behaviour".
""We are an inclusive football club. Anyone identified committing an offence will have their details passed to the police and will face a lifetime ban from London Stadium.
"There is no place for this kind of behaviour at our stadium."
The Twitter user who posted the video wrote: "I was disgusted by what I was hearing. People like this deserve no place in our society let alone football matches."
British media reported the Metropolitan Police are aware of the incident and are investigating.
"We are dismayed to see yet another high-profile incident of discrimination in English football - this time a video of disgraceful anti-Muslim abuse aimed at Liverpool's Mohamed Salah by a West Ham United supporter," anti-determination group Kick It Out said in a statement.
"We are pleased that West Ham officials have expressed their determination to identify the supporter and take firm action - this type of behaviour is simply unacceptable and must be challenged swiftly and decisively."
It's the latest incident of alleged racial abuse in English soccer over the past few months.
In January, three men were arrested for racist offences during the League Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium.
Two other probes involving Chelsea fans were also opened in December, one for an incident during a Europa League match in Hungary and the other after Manchester City's Raheem Sterling claimed abuse from fans at Stamford Bridge in a Premier League game.
