HYDERABAD: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary K Manavatha Roy on Wednesday said the Congress will launch protest programmes if the party is shown in poor light in the YSR biopic.

He claimed that YSRCP leaders are behind the making of the film and that it has been made to derive political mileage ahead of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. “YSR was a Congress leader till he died. Any attempt to show that YSR differed with the Congress high command and Sonia Gandhi on certain issues such that the party is shown in negative light would be viewed seriously by party workers in Telangana,” he said.

Manavatha Roy, who failed to get a ticket from Sattupalli constituency in the recent Assembly polls, said he would support the candidature of Lok Sabha campaign committee chairman Vijayashanti if she contests from Khammam seat.

“Non-locals have won from Khammam in the past. Vijayashanti has a good name of being a firebrand leader during the Telangana statehood agitation. I will contest from Warangal if the party high command gives the green signal,” he said. Former Union minister Renuka Choudhary, AICC ex-secretary Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy and V Hanumanth Rao are already in the race for the Khammam LS seat.
