A Nigerian team Thursaday visited some locations in the Hazaribagh district to learn about construction of community toilets which they said they would emulate in their country.
The team from the African nation would spend two more days in the district to have a first hand knowledge about building the community toilets.
Our country Nigeria, having the third largest population after China and India, is facing open defecation problem. We have come to Hazaribagh to learn from the district administration how it has succeeded in making community toilets so that the same can be implemented in Nigeria too at the earliest, the head of the 35-member Nigerian team, Bruener (one name) told PTI.
An engineer by profession and coming from Abuji in Nigeria, he said their visit has been sponsored by the World bank.
Jharkhand has become ODF (Open Defecation Free) state.
He praised Hazaribagh Deputy Commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla and his team for setting an example not only in India but also at the world level.
Accompanied by District Development Commissioner (DDC), Vijaya Jadhav, the team visited Kanchanpur in Katkumsandid and Banha in Katkumsandi blocks in Hazaribagh district Thursday.
The Nigerian team witnessed projects like Anganwadi Centre, Gobardhan Yojana and Swajal Yojana (the community owned drinking water programme) at Kanchanpur.
They also toured rural schools and learnt about children being provided assistances, including in the fields of education and health care.
