GHMC to provide all types of guidance

The GHMC is mulling conducting monthly orientation meetings/workshops for people aiming to construct a house of their own in the city, and provide them guidance to overcome the hurdles in obtaining building permissions.

What’s more, the corporation will keep ready prototypes of building plans for the citizens to choose, so that they need not spend much on hiring an architect.

Revealing the plans during an interactive session with media on Tuesday, Commissioner M. Dana Kishore said the first such meeting was likely to be conducted on February 15.

“The meeting will be conducted once a month by the Town Planning section, where people can apply in prescribed form for information with regard to building permissions. They will be made aware of the process, and the documents required for the same. We may print small brochures with the required information for distribution,” Mr. Dana Kishore said. This is for protecting citizens from falling prey to brokers who promise to get the clearance for monetary consideration, he said.

About 15,000 to 16,000 applications are received every year by Town Planning wing for building permissions, majority of which are for construction of independent houses. Those applying will also be provided access to a bank of about 4,000 building plans, prepared to suit different plot areas, up to 500 square yards. This offer will be valid only for independent houses, Mr. Dana Kishore said, adding that those who had long-term plans of owning a home too are welcome to apply for information.
