Students leaders, who are organising the Young India Adhikar March on February 7, said on Tuesday that there was nothing in Budget 2019 for the youth and hit out at BJP leader Arun Jaitley for being oblivious about student protests across the country.

The Young India Adhikar March is expected to see youth come from across the country to “expose” the government’s failure in delivering on its promise to create jobs, and protest against the “destruction” of public-funded education.

The students said that the budget was silent on the issue of jobs, minimum wages and that the allocation on education was at an all-time low.

JNU Students’ Union president N. Sai Balaji said: “Modi will come to the youth for one more chance but this time we will not give him a chance as he has ruined our future. Through our unity we are going to ensure all vacant government jobs are filled, 10% of GDP is spent on education, and that gender and social justice is ensured.”

Mr. Jaitley had commented on a report, which stated that unemployment was at an all-time high, saying that “there would be great social unrest” if the data was true.
