NOIDA: The NMRC on Wednesday launched a mobile application which will help passengers get QR code-based tickets to travel on the metro.
The app is expected to help ease the process of ticket purchase and avoid queues at metro stations in future.
The NMRC, which has a low ridership of just 11,389 passengers per day, also expects to boost its ridership with the app.
“People can download the app from Google play store on Android phones. The commuter can select the source and destination of the stations followed by payment of the applicable fare which will show on the app,” said Kanishka Singh, DGM (AFC), NMRC.
However, once the ticket is booked via the app, the commuter will have to enter the metro station within 30 minutes of the QR code generation. The commuter will have the option of making payment via netbanking, credit card or debit card.
“Once the payment is made, a grey QR code will appear which will serve as the QR ticket for the passenger. The passenger will have to scan this QR code at the Automated Fare Collection (AFC) gate within 30 minutes of its generation. Once the ticket is scanned, the QR code will turn green and remain so till the passenger exits the metro premises. The passenger will have to scan the QR code at the AFC gate again while leaving,” Singh said.
After exit, the QR code will turn red and become unusable.
Officials clarified that the ticket will become invalid in case entry is delayed by more than 30 minutes after the generation of QR code.
Currently, while 85.74% of the Noida metro riders buy physical QR tickets, the card users make up only 14.26%.
With the launch of app, officials expect an increase in the smart card purchase too.
