The project is being implemented on corporation office premises under AMRUT scheme. Minister A K Saseendran said that cabinet has decided to run electric buses in the city on an experimental basis and steps will be taken to make Thiruvananthapuram a pollution free city. Mayor said that multi level parking facilities will also come up at Medical college and Putharikandam.
The parking facility at main office was proposed at a cost of Rs 5.64 crore and the one at Putharikandam will be executed at Rs 12 crore. The corporation had called for tenders earlier in June. Although four firms took part in the pre-bid meeting, only one firm had submitted tenders and the officials had decided to retender the project. The state high powered steering committee had sanctioned the projects in December 2017.
The facility which will be constructed on the corporation premises will accomodate 102 four wheelers at a time. The second one proposed at Putharikandaom will be designed to park 240 vehicles. Besides four wheelers, 250 bikes could also be parked at the multi-level parking facility at Putharikandom. A provision has also been proposed to arrange parking of auto-rickshaws at the multi level parking facility at Putharikandom.
