A youth was arrested for allegedly sharing a fake schedule of general election 2019 on his website, the Delhi police said on Tuesday.
He was subsequently released on bail. A senior police officer said the accused has been identified as Gomunt Kumar, a resident of Ranchi. He was arrested on January 31 from his home town. He is pursuing graduation there, the police said.
The police said they received a complaint from the office of the Chief Electoral Office stating that a fake notification about schedule of the general election is being circulated on social media and other online platforms.
“A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered and investigation was taken up by the Cyber Cell of the Special Cell unit. The case was registered on January 18,” he said.
During investigation, the police traced a website named www.mytechbuzz.in where the notification was published.

“Technical investigation was conducted and the administrator of the website was identified as Gomunt Kumar. A team was sent to Ranchi after which the arrest was made,” the officer said.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly told the police that he received the notification on a WhatsApp group after which he published it on the website.
“His device has been seized for further probe. The accused was released on bail after conclusion of investigation with respect to his role,” the officer said.
The police said that they are yet to investigate whether the accused was the source of the fake notification. “His claims are being verified and teams are working to get to the source of the fake notification,” the officer said.
