A relative of Haseena Parkar, the sister of fugitive Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar, was on Monday arrested by the Vakola police in connection with the murder of a contractor in December last year.
The deceased, Abdullah Khan, was on his way home after offering namaaz at a local mosque when four men allegedly threw chilli powder in his eyes, causing him to fall off his bike. They allegedly stabbed him, smashed his face with a stone, and fled the scene.
The Vakola police had arrested four people, including Azeemshad Khan. His father, Ameershad (56), was wanted since then.
According to the police, Ameershad was picked up from his Kalina residence late on Monday, after the police were tipped off about his arrival. “Ameershad had been on the run since the murder. In his interrogation, he has said that he travelled to Ajmer, Uttar Pradesh and Indore and stayed in mosques in each place for around a week. He was continuously changing his location and spending only in cash to avoid being caught,” a police officer said.
When Ameershad ran out of cash, he did not want to risk using a debit card and decided to visit his house. His plan was to collect whatever cash he could lay his hands on and decamp the same night. “Ameershad was the mastermind of the murder, and his son and the other three accused executed it. Ameershad and Abdullah had a dispute as a leading builder had taken away a site supervision contract from Ameershad and given it to Khan. Ameershad has claimed that when he suffered a couple of personal losses, he started suspecting Khan of using black magic against him,” the officer said.
Police officials said one of Ameershad’s daughters is married to Parkar’s son Danish. Parkar stayed in India when Kaskar fled to Dubai, and went on to become a local don in her own right. She passed away from a heart attack in July 2014.
