NOIDA: Residents of Sector 47 will hold a special farmers’ market on February 10 on the occasion of Basant Panchami near the sector’s community centre from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm.
Around 80 vendors and farmers from Mathura, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and other areas will bring organic farm products, including vegetables, fruits, edible oil, milk, cheese, milk products for sale.
The farmers’ market is being organised by a 10 member women group of the sector, Green Crusaders of Sector 47, along with the RWA.
“Our Sunday farmers’ market is aimed to promote fresh food and earth friendly packaging by way of inviting producers of chemical and pesticide free food to participate with their products. The market offers a perfect opportunity for a large number of vendors to interact directly with health conscious buyers,” said Deepa Bagai, a member of the group.
On the occasion, the farmers’ market will also felicitate Bharat Bhushan Tyagi, an organic farmer from Bulandshahr, who was awarded the Padma Shree this year for his work in agriculture category.
“There will be band performance from CRPF in the event. Musical performances will also be held and food stalls will be set up where visitors can enjoy the breakfast cooked using organic products,” said Devyani Arora, a resident of the sector.
Sector 47 is the first locality in Noida which has managed to treat all its solid waste by turning into compost as it treats about 1200 kg segregated waste per day through compost machine installed in the sector. The farmers’ market is among several initiatives aimed at making the sector environment-friendly.
“We are committed to this cause and are hoping to make our sector an example for waste disposal and management,” said P P S Nagar, RWA president of Sector 47.
