Fire extinguished in cell at Canberra prison

A small fire was extinguished inside an inmate's cell at Canberra prison on Wednesday afternoon.

ACT Fire & Rescue were called to the Hume complex about 4pm after a fire started by the inmate triggered the building's alarm.

A spokeswoman for the territory's justice and community safety directorate said corrections officers attended the cell and extinguished the fire before emergency services arrived on scene.

No one was injured in the incident, the spokeswoman said.

In November, two Canberra prison officers were taken to hospital after an altercation involving an inmate who started a fire in his cell.
