Following previous directions of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has informed the Tribunal that action has been taken against an illegal motor vehicle service unit operating in Dwarka.

The SDMC informed a Bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel that the motor vehicle sale and service unit running in the residential area of Dhool Siras village in Dwarka has been shut down.

The civic body submitted before the green panel that the premises of the Dwarka-based unit was vacated by the SDMC.

The directions came after the NGT took note of a letter from Bijwasan MLA Colonel Devinder Sehrawat that had alleged illegal operation of the unit leading to pollution.

Non-conforming area

Further, the plea alleged that the unit was operating in a non-conforming area and the sought directions to the SDMC to take appropriate action against the same.

While disposing of the matter, the Bench said: “The SDMC was required to furnish a report…accordingly, a report has been received to the effect that prosecution has been initiated and the premises have been vacated [and] illegal activities have been stopped.”
