At least one person has been killed and four others left under rubble after an eight-story residential building collapsed in Istanbul, Turkish private broadcaster NTV said on Wednesday (February 6).

It was not immediately clear why the building, in the Kartal district, had collapsed.

Large numbers of police, ambulances and firefighters were sent to the site, NTV said.

Emergency teams were trying to reach the four individuals left under the rubble.

Relatives of people living in the flats could be seen in distress near the site of the collapse while large crowds of people assisted emergency services in removing debris.
