Mercedes’ smallest people carrier has received a number of important updates, chief of which is a new OM608 engine generation replacing the previously available OM607.

The Citan Tourer is now using the latest generation of the Renault-sourced 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel engine in three states of tune.

The 108 CDI has 80 PS (79 hp) and 210 Nm (155 lb-ft) of torque, the 109 CDI offers 95 PS (94 hp) and 230 Nm (170 lb-ft), and the 111 CDI comes with 116 PS (114 hp) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft). The third version is also found in the new A180d.

Regardless of the version, the 1.5-liter diesel is paired to a new six-speed manual transmission and SCR technology that enables it to comply with the current emission class Euro 6d-TEMP. According to Mercedes, the new gearbox offers “impressively comfortable gear shifting and reduced fuel consumption with a wider gear spread.”

Official NEDC fuel economy ratings are 4.8-4.6 l/100 km (58.8-61.4 mpg UK), with corresponding CO2 emissions of 127-121 g/km. Following the rollout in the Tourer, the OM608 diesel engines will be fitted to the Citan Panel Van as well starting this summer.

Besides the new powertrains, the Mercedes-Benz Citan Tourer offers a new equipment line called Red Design Package that enhances the small minivan’s appearance. Highlights include red decorative strips beneath the front grille and on the mirror housings, as well as grey sports strips on the sides.

The Red Design Package, which is available both for the Citan Tourer and Citan Panel Van, also brings a chrome radiator trim and a chrome strip on the tailgate. Inside, customers can choose between two packages: the Color Interior Design package and the Chrome Interior. The former includes red trim rings on the vents and speakers as well as red top stitching on the front seats and all head restraints, while the latter adds several chrome elements in the cabin.
