Make them POP

Make-up is no joke. People who love make-up can tell you best. Sure it does enhance your beauty and makes you stand out from the crowd but it again depends on your  choice of make-up because there are countless trends popping up in the beauty industry every now and then. One trend that is fast catching on is neon mascara. Be it models on fashion runways or celebrities across the globe, neon mascara is taking up their glam quotient. Simply because neon colours have a different warmth to them and add a fun personality to an individual’s overall appearance. Talking to make-up artists and bloggers, we find out more about the dos and the don’ts when applying neon mascara and how one can sport the look.

Lifestyle and fashion blogger Payal Shankar, who blogs at Scribble, says that in recent years, eye make-up has gone visibly dramatic. “Be it heavy and dramatic winging, dotted and creative winged tips, catty eyeliners and neon shades — they are all taking the eye game up a notch,” says Shankar adding that the unicorn fever never seems to be going out. “And anyone can experiment with bold looks for their eyes,” says Shankar further mentioning, “Personally speaking, I feel smokey eyes are just overrated now, but a coloured neon mascara is just so fresh and vibrant and instantly changes the entire look.”

The best part is that one does not have to work hard to create and achieve this look. “What you need is a clean matte face and you can play around with the mascara colours and your lippie, and you are good to go,” says Shankar adding that for a complete bold, out-of-the-box look, one should wear yellow neon mascara and bold red or tangerine lips. But if you want to go for a subtle look, it is best to opt for nude lip colours which will go well with either blue or green neon masacara.

To create a more dramatic and luxe effect, Shankar says that one must not swipe the mascara from the root to the end of the lashes, but swipe from mid length to the end, because of which the pop of the neon coloured mascara will distinctly be visible.

Dubai-based make-up artist Aliya Hamidi, says that neon may not be limited to parties or fun evenings. “Certain neon shades can also be worn during the day, it just brings out your fun side — be it for a brunch, or a little shopping spree with your friends or even college. If you are comfortable wearing this trend, you can sport it, well, anywhere,” she says.

Hamidi points out that most models and celebrities who are seen wearing neon mascara have one thing in common — the other make-up elements are minimal. “Pairing it with the right colours is the key to look your ultimate best, when it comes to neon mascara,” says Hamidi adding that even though neon mascara is in vogue the problem is finding one that suits your budget and need. “It is pointless spending on a single mascara just because it is a trend, because of which I always urge people to buy a clear mascara gel and a good pigmented eyeshadow palette,” she says.

To create neon mascara, one should scoop a bit of neon eyeshadow in a spare bowl or container and with a spoolie, dip in clear mascara, pick some loose eyeshadow and roll it well, and apply to the eye lashes as desired.

Blogger Monisha Mehta says that neon eye mascara is the electrifying beauty trend of the moment because it is eye catching and has the most intense highlighting method. “From fiery orange and glow-in-the-dark red, to electric yellow and fluorescent green — everything is in fashion but you have to choose according to your comfort level,” she says adding that one of the best options would be to team up complementary colours like blue and violet. “The colours that would work for daytime are bright pinks and coral while the colours that do wonders for the night look are electric blue and vibrant purple,” says Mehta.
