Catering contractor hacked to death in Tamil Nadu

KUMBAKONAM: A gang hacked a 40-year-old catering contractor to death at Thirupuvanam in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as V Ramalingam of Keezh Thoondil Vinayagan Pettai at Thirupuvanam. He was running a catering service at Thirupuvanam. The murder happened around 12.30am when he was returning home from his office.
An unidentified gang intercepted him and allegedly attacked him with sharp weapons. On hearing his screams, some neighbours rushed to the spot. However, the gang fled the scene after inflicting grievous injuries on him.
Ramalingam was rushed to Kumbakonam Government Hospital from where he was referred to Thanjavur Government Medical College Hospital. However, he died on the way to Thanjavur hospital.
The Thiruvidaimaruthur police rushed to the spot. They began investigations to ascertain the reason for the murder.
Tension prevailed in the area after the murder. Police personnel have been deployed there.
