HC seeks report on infrastructure in temples

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday sought action taken reports from the State on the basic infrastructure available at the Dandayuthapaniswamy Temple in Palani and Kallazhagar Temple in Alagarkoil.

A Division Bench of Justices N. Kirubakaran and S. S. Sundar also sought a report on the status of the Geographical Indication tag application for panchamirtham, the Dandayuthapaniswamy Temple prasadam.

The court was hearing two separate public interest litigation petitions filed by A. Radhakrishnan of Chennai, who sought a direction to the State to provide basic infrastructure and amenities at the temple. He also sought a direction to the authorities to identify and remove encroachments from the temple lands. The case was adjourned for further hearing.
