Coonoor tea auction volume falls further

The falling trend seen in the past few weeks in the volumes coming up for auction at the Coonoor Tea Trade Association continued this week with only 11.88 lakh kg catalogued for Sale No: 6 on Thursday and Friday.

This is as much as 1.12 lakh kg less than the offer for last week’s sale. The volume offered has fallen by over 7 lakh kg in the last three weeks. Besides, this is the lowest volume in recent weeks.

Of the 11.88 lakh kg, as much as 11.04 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 84,000 kg to the orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades.

In the leaf counter, only 55,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 6.54 lakh kg is CTC. Among the dusts, only 29,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 4.50 lakh kg is CTC.

In all, 7.09 lakh kg belongs to Leaf grades and 4.79 lakh kg to the dust grades.
