‘There will be escalators and lifts on both ends of bridge’

Work on the mechanised foot overbridge (FOB) near V.K. Krishnamenon Indoor Stadium started on Tuesday. The bridge is expected to ease traffic congestion near the mofussil bus stand on Rajaji Road.

The bridge will come up on the spot where there was a foot overbridge earlier, which was dismantled a few years ago as pedestrians continued to cross the road below it. The continuous road crossing of commuters from the city bus stop near the stadium to the mofussil bus stand and back is one of the main reasons behind traffic blocks and congestions on the stretch.

The new bridge will be constructed at a cost of ₹11.35 crore under the Urban Transport section of the Amrut project.

“There will be escalators and lifts on both ends of the bridge, so that even the differently abled can use it,” said Vinayan K.P, Additional Secretary at the Kozhikode Corporation.
