PUNE: An elderly woman could not withstand the shocking news of her son’s suicide and died of heart attack on Tuesday morning.
The 36-year-old man hanged himself to death in the bedroom of their Pimple Saudagar flat late on Monday night. His mother knocked on the bedroom door on Tuesday morning, but there was no response from inside.
Senior inspector Prabhakar Shinde of the Sangvi police said the elderly woman then called up her daughter and others, who opened the door, and found him hanging from the ceiling fan. When they broke the news to the woman, she died of heart attack within a few minutes.
The man was employed in a private company in Hinjewadi. His mother (65) was a homemaker. The Sangvi police have filed a case of accidental death in the hanging case. The man did not leave any suicide note.
According to the police, the man was disturbed for the past couple of years. He was receiving treatment from a psychiatrist, but his condition deteriorated in the past few months. He was not consuming medicines off late and had gone into severe depression.
Senior inspector Shinde said the deceased duo had their roots in West Bengal. They had been staying in Pune for a few years now. “The man did not visit his doctor for the past couple of months,” Shinde said.
The man’s sister took him to the hospital on Monday afternoon, but he ran away. She searched for him in the Deccan area and later filed a missing person’s complaint with the Deccan Gymkhana police.
“The man returned home around 11.30pm. First, he tried to cut his wrist with a sharp knife. But he failed. He then hanged himself,” Shinde said.
