12k MW solar power project by PSUs gets Cabinet nod
TNN | Feb 7, 2019, 04:04 ISTNEW DELHI: The Cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal for setting up 12,000 MW grid-connected solar photo-voltaic (PV) power projects by government entities with viability gap funding (VGF) of Rs 8,580 crore.
The capacity will be set up under Central PSU Scheme Phase-ll over the next four years through 2022-23 at an estimated investment of Rs 48,000 crore. The scheme envisages use of cells and modules manufactured domestically.
The scheme is expected to provide direct employment to around 60,000 persons for about one year in pre-commissioning activities/construction phase and around 18,000 persons for about 25 years in the operation and maintenance period. Besides, more than 1,20,000 additional employment opportunities will be created for the local population by way of involvement in setting up of solar power projects and also in manufacturing of domestically produced cells and modules.
The Cabinet also approved allocation of 85% power to home state from two of NTPC's projects in Telangana and Jharkhand. These projects are the Telangana Super Thermal Power Project and Patratu Thermal Power Station expansion. Both projects have a capacity of 4,000 MW each.
