Kardashian cause\, Alice Johnson\, praised by Trump

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) During his State of the Union address, U.S. President Donald Trump praised Alice Marie Johnson, the 63-year-old from Tennessee who was granted clemency by the president and whose cause was taken up by celebrity Kim Kardashian West.

"Alice's story underscores the disparities and unfairness that can exist in criminal sentencing - and the need to remedy this total injustice," Trump said on Tuesday.

Last year in June Trump commuted Johnson's life sentence for a first-time drug offense.

Johnson has already served more than 20 years in prison on drug conspiracy and money laundering charges.

Johnson "has been a model prisoner over the past two decades" White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a statement.
