A man attacked a second-year intermediate student with a sickle in a broad daylight, at Barkatpura, injuring her seriously on neck and abdomen, on Wednesday, for allegedly turning down his proposal. The condition of the victim, a 17-year-old girl, is said to be critical.
Kachiguda police said that the victim's neighbour Bharat (19) attacked her on the main road, while she was on her way to college. The incident took place around 7 a.m. on Wednesday
The girl sustained deep injuries in the neck, abdomen and a hand. She was rushed to a private hospital in Malakpet, where her condition was said to be critical.
“For the last few months, the girl was being harassed the accused, after she turned down his proposal. Following which he decided to take revenge,” police officials said.
According to police, Bharat was earlier taken to Bharosa Centre for counselling by the victim's parents, but he continued to follow and harass her. “On Monday, the accused also warned the girl's mother over phone,” they said.
The Kachiguda police has reportedly nabbed Bharat and a case has been registered under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
