CHENNAI: The Congress will not spoil the party’s friendship with the DMK just for one or two seats, said newly appointed TNCC chief K S Alagiri on Wednesday. He said the main issue was to defeat the NDA government at the Centre in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

Interacting with reporters after meeting DMK president M K Stalin, Alagiri said, “We discussed the present political situation in the state. Once the Election Commission announces the election schedule, seat sharing talks will start between the Congress and the DMK.”

Asked about the alliance between the AIADMK and the BJP, Alagiri said there was some confusion within the AIADMK about striking an alliance with the BJP. “It is doubtful whether the alliance will happen,” he said.
