A day after Janata Dal (Secular) MLC K.T. Srikante Gowda questioned the caste and State of origin of actor Sumalatha, wife of the late M.H. Ambareesh who has expressed willingness to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Mandya, a video clip of an old interview with Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy is suddenly in the news.
In the interview, given during the release of his son Nikhil Kumaraswamy’s first movie, Jaguar, Mr. Kumaraswamy had said that his wife, Anitha Kumaraswamy, belonged to a Telugu family. Fans of Ambareesh, who have been protesting the disparaging remarks made by Mr. Srikante Gowda, demanded to know on Tuesday if Ms. Anitha could then be deemed an “outsider”.
The fans also reacted sharply to Mr. Kumaraswamy’s remarks questioning Ms. Sumalatha’s contributions to Mandya. They asked what Mr. Nikhil Kumaraswamy had contributed to Mandya, considering that his name was being floated for the seat. The fans demanded that JD(S) patriarch H.D. Deve Gowda take action against his party leader for “insulting” Ms. Sumalatha.
