HYDERABAD: NRI businessman Chigurupati Jayaram’s murder case witnessed several twists and turns on Tuesday with prime accused Rakesh Reddy claiming he met an inspector in Hyderabad after committing the murder and, based on the advice of two city cops, dumped the body in Nandigama. However, the inspector claimed he was not aware of the murder.
Another cop, whose name surfaced in the case, has been transferred. Late in the night, Jayaram’s wife lodged a complaint with Jubilee Hills police alleging some people, including her niece Sikha Chowdary, trespassed into their house. She also requested transfer of the case from Andhra Pradesh to Hyderabad.
Andhra Pradesh police, who are probing the case, said they were seeking legal opinion about the possibility of transferring the case to Hyderabad police as the offence took place in Jubilee Hills.
Rakesh Reddy, in his confession, said he spoke to Nallakunta inspector Srinivasulu and Ibrahimpatnam ACP Malla Reddy after the murder and, based on their advice, dumped the body in Nandigama, Krishna district SP Sarvshresth Tripathi said.
“We have technical evidence indicating there was exchange of phone calls between Rakesh and the two cops. It does not confirm their involvement in the case. We have to verify it further,” he added. However, inspector Srinivasulu told TOI that though he spoke to Rakesh over the phone, he was unaware of the murder.
He also claimed he did not meet Rakesh.
In a related development, ACP S Malla Reddy was attached to Armed Reserve in Amberpet. ACP, Vanasthalipuram, Gandhi Narayana would be in-charge of Ibrahimpatnam division. “Once we receive a report from AP police, we will conduct an inquiry,” Rachakonda commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said.
Meanwhile, the NRI’s wife Padmasree said: “As the murder took place in Hyderabad, I requested the Jubilee Hills police to get the case transferred here and probe it. Shikha Chowdary entered my house and my life,” Padmasree said. She stated that important documents were found strewn on the floor in their house and some valuables also went missing.
