Brisbane man admits fatal punch on father
When Morgan Alexander Isles-English crossed a Brisbane city street to attack his estranged father, he took away a beloved "life coach, saviour and protector".
Isles-English, 27, was on parole when he landed a fatal punch on Mark English in July 2016.
Mr English had no time to react to the unprovoked attack, from which he died days later in hospital having hit his head on the concrete.
Isles-English has pleaded guilty to unlawful striking causing the death in Brisbane Supreme Court on Wednesday.
He also assaulted two corrective service officers while in pre-sentence custody, with his lengthy criminal history including several prior assaults and property offences heard in court.
Isles-English apologised in court for his actions, saying seeing his father sparked an emotional response having "dealt with a lot of violence" when he was younger.
He said he did not mean for Mr English to die.
Tears were shed as impact statements from Mr English's fiance and her daughter were heard as he was described as a "missing puzzle piece" in their family.
Isles-English was supported by family members and had to be separated by guards from a young woman who kissed him in the prisoners dock before proceedings began.
The sentencing continues.
