The Australian Federal Police launched an investigation after it received a report from the US-based National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, ABC reported.
Federal Police allegedly used Mr Yardley’s social media accounts to track him down.
Police allege when they searched a caravan in south Canberra they found items including a mobile phone, hard-drive and a laptop with a storage card.
Child exploitation material was allegedly found on five devices, including the mobile phone.

Mr Yardley told police he had looked at pornography but did not know how the material featuring children got onto his phone.
The court heard Mr Yardley suffered several mental health conditions and was socially isolated.
He was granted bail and will reappear in court in late February.
