Woman found dead in paddy fields near Madurai

MADURAI: A 47-year-old woman was found dead in a paddy field in a village near Peraiyur in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. Police said that the woman, identified as P Mariammal of K Chatrapatti, had been murdered by someone but the motive behind the crime was not known.
One of her eyes was badly damaged, T Kallupatti police inspector Vijayakandipan said.
Mariammal went to a paddy field, owned by her relative, with food for her husband Parameswaran who was working there.
After having food, Parameswaran went to T Kallupatti, while the woman stayed there alone.
The murder came to light when Parameswaran returned after a couple of hours. He found Mariammal dead and alerted the police. The body was shifted to a government hospital where a postmortem was conducted on Wednesday.
