on Wednesday (IST) delivered the State of the Union address, a yearly briefing by the President of the United States to a joint session of the United States Congress at the beginning of each calendar year in office. The house got up to reward his speech with standing ovations a few times and chants of "USA, USA". Trump said he like the chant.

He urged the Congress to fund the safety of the country's southern borders. He said, "I welcome immigrants in the largest numbers ever, but they must come in legally.'' He mocked wealthy people who canvass for free borders but themselves live in the safety of 'guarded walls'. Trump said that as a result of $250 billion worth of tariffs on China, the US treasury is receiving 'billions and billions of dollars'.

He said that the Nafta ( North American Free Trade Agreement) was a disaster. He stressed that his presidency has helped expedite the spirit of 'four beautiful words' -- 'Made in the USA''. The overwhelming arc of Trump's speech was 'safety' of Americans being in jeopardy because of the Mexico border. He called for compromise and co-operation from the Congress to help him secure America's borders from illegal immigrants. He also claimed that a record number jobs have been created during his presidency.

He seemed unusually statesmanlike during the first few minutes of the address, refraining from potshots at critics and stayed the course during the speech that was said would be bipartsian.
