Innocent commuters waiting at a bus stop are almost killed after being mowed down by a driver in a stolen vehicle

  • Black Honda Accord smashed into the bus stop and hit two commuters
  • The 17-year-old victim is currently in hospital and remains in serious condition

  • The driver, 35, was arrested at the hospital after coming in for his injuries 

Innocent commuters waiting at a bus stop were almost killed on Saturday after being mowed down by a hit-run driver in a stolen vehicle. 

Shocking CCTV footage shows a black Honda Accord speeding towards the bus stop in Clayton South, Melbourne, after 11am. 

The car then crashes into the glass and metal shelter, slamming into a 17-year-old girl and a 20-year-old man.

The teenager suffered multiple broken bones and is currently in hospital in a serious condition.

'It was an almighty bang,' witness Leigh Fist told 9News.

'We were just telling her (the girl) to calm down and relax,' another witness said.  

The 35-year-old driver attempted to flee on foot, but was later arrested by Major Collision Detectives after arriving at Monash Hospital with injuries. 

Police allege he stole the vehicle two days earlier during a burglary at Forest Hill in Melbourne's east.
