Vadodara: Anti-corruption bureau (ACB) arrested a caterer on Wednesday in connection with a three-year-old graft case in which the key accused had siphoned off Rs 27 lakh.
Gajesinh Rajpurohit, who owns Rajpurohit Catering Services, was contracted by the main accused Harish Kale. Kale, then a senior coach of Vadodara district sports training centre, was responsible for holding sports camps for 500 tribal students in 2012. The state government had allocated Rs 39 lakh for holding a 21-day sports camp at CN Baxi Sarvajanik Vidyalaya in Pavi Jetpur, Adivasi Madhyamik Shala and Eklavya Archery Academy in Naswadi between September and October in 2012.
During investigation, ACB sleuths found three bills of the value of Rs 8.3 lakh that were given by Rajpurohit to Kale. Kale had submitted those bills for clearance of payment to Rajpurohit. ACB officials said that the payment was done to Rajpurohit on the basis of the bills produced, but in reality Kale had not held any camps.
“If the camp was not held, the caterer would not have provided food to any student. On what basis then were the bills made and the payment accepted?” said an ACB official. He added chances were high that Rajpurohit and Kale must have shared the amount which the former received against the bills.
Kale was held in the same case in December last year.
