Udaan Skill Development Centre opens in Ghorpadi

PUNE: A platform for women to show their skills and art has been provided at Ghorpadi by the inauguration of Udaan Skill Development Centre.

Maj Gen Navneet Kumar, Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) President, inaugurated the centre at Talim Chowk, near Ghorpadi vegetable market and Konika Kumar, the wife of Maj Gen Navneet Kumar, was the guest of honour. 

The centre has been developed in a 1,500 sq ft area and has three sewing machines and two computers along with a library.

The dignitaries present were Kumar and his wife Konika Kumar, along with PCB Chief Executive Office DN Yadav, PCB Vice President Priyanka Shrigiri and PCB ward member Kiran Mantri. 

Elected members of PCB Dilip Giramkar and Vinod Mathurawala were also present.

Bharat Forge HR Leena Deshpande, Dr Altaf Shaikh and Dr Nasreen, head of departments at Poona College, also graced the occasion.

Kumar said, “Women are already art-oriented and they just need a platform. Women should not only focus on sewing but also should pursue the art in which they are interested and make money out of it.”

PCB CEO DN Yadav said, “This is the fourth centre of skill development inaugurated in Pune Cantonment limits. The first one is located on MG Road, the second one at Wanawadi and the third one is at New Modi Khana. Women will be imparted training on operating computers and also fashion designing.”

Kiran Mantri, the ward member from Ghorpadi, said, “This platform will encourage women to take up the art and carry it forward and make a business out of it. We will encourage women to learn new art forms so that they can be independent.”
