The 20th quinquennial livestock census is under way in the Union Territory under the auspices of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Animal Welfare.

The census, carried out in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, which began on January 30 will continue till March 31. A pool of trained enumerators apart from the department staff have been tasked with carrying out the assessment.

The data collected will be utilised for planning and formulation of various policies, schemes and programmes aimed at bringing further development in the Animal Husbandry sector.
