Activist Rehana Fathima sentenced single day imprisonment, fine of Rs 2.10 lakh in cheque bounce case

ALAPPUZHA: Activist Rehana Fathima, who was punished for one day imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2.10 lakh by the Kerala high court in a cheque bounce case, appeared before Alappuzha chief judicial magistrate CK Madhusoodhanan to serve the sentence on Monday. Officials said that she had paid the fine.
The court verdict was based on a complaint filed by Alappuzha native who alleged that Fathima borrowed Rs 2 lakh from him and failed to repay it. In 2014, chief judicial magistrate in Alappuzha sentenced her to one day imprisonment and a fine. Against the verdict, she filed an appeal before the high court. However, the high court also ordered her to undergo single day imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 2.10 lakh.
