Bhopal: RGPV convocation sees branding of party leaders

Bhopal: The tenth convocation ceremony of the Rajiv Gandhi Prodyogiki Vishwavidalya (RGPV) turned out to be platform for branding of political leaders. As the Chancellor and Governor gave example of PM Modi twice in her address, the technical education minister was not far behind in recounting former PM Rajiv Gandih’s contribution in promoting science and technology.

Addressing the students, Anandiben Patel, Governor and chancellor of RGPV said “apka lakshya pahunch me ho magar pakad me na ho” ( your goal should be in your reach but should not be an easy one). She repeated the lines verbatim said by PM Modi in an interactive programme with students. Citing the lines, Governor said that this is what PM Modi had told students recently.

Continuing with her address, encouraging the students to improve life of common people through their technical innovations, Governor mentioned Modi for the second time. Pointing out to school students present in the programme, the Governor said that some of you would be wondering over presence of school children in the programme.

“These students are from the schools adopted by the RGPV. They have been invited here to visit the university and see students being felicitated. This would motivate them to study hard and achieve the same status,” said the Governor. She gave example of PM Modi once again- saying that once PM Modi was invited in a programme by a central university.

Modi told the university that he will come along with 50 guests. University made appropriate arrangements for the guests but were surprised to see that all these 50 guests were school children. “Modi ji had then said that these school children have been brought here as special guests so that they take inspiration from the programme and the university campus.”

Governor Patel also urged the university to sit with the chief guest former chairman of ISRO AS Kiran Kumar and mull over starting something related with his expertise. Earlier, technical education minister Bala Bachchan remembered former PM Rajiv Gandhi in his speech.

The minister said “It was Rajiv Gandhi’s vision that brought computer to India. It was after introduction of computers that the scene in science and technology completely changed. Name of this university has therefore been kept on his name.” All students are free to visit him in case of any problem or any suggestion for the improvement of the university, said Bachchan.

Chief guest, Padamshri AS Kiran Kumar said that graduating does not mean end of studies. “Technology is changing so fast that what was introduced yesterday might become obsolete tomorrow; therefore students need to remain updated always.” He also urged the students to explore technology for the good of under privileged people. The programme begun with VC Sunil Shukla presenting report card before the Chancellor and guests. More than 200 gold medals were given to the outstanding students besides awarding degrees to the research scholars.

Buses full of students were sent for political prog

Technical education minister Bala Bachchan on the occasion took the opportunity to attack previous government. The minister said he got reports that buses full of students from this university were used to sent in the political programmes. This will not be repeated in this government, he added.

Alifia Bohra wins five gold medals

Alifia Bohra was felicitated with five gold medals- highest in the convocation ceremony that was held for pass outs of year 2015, 2016 and 2017. Overall 10 Kuladhipati gold medals, 31 Samarpan gold medals, 83 gold medals and 80 silver medals were given. 49 research degrees (PhD), 1.48 lakh graduation degrees and more than 18,000 postgraduate degrees were awarded.
